Advocacy Committee Report | April 2019

The 2019 State legislative session ended on Monday April 8 (Sine Die) with the passage of over 850 bills, and on a sad note with the passing of long time House Speaker Michael Busch.

WDC submitted testimony on 26 important State bills that significantly impacted women and their families. WDC also submitted testimony on two County bills.

A special thank you to our tireless Advocacy Committee Issues Captains and their Committees: Karissa Miller (Affordable Housing); JoAnne Koravos (Aging); Gael Cheek (Children and Youth); Beth Tomasello (Criminal Justice and Public Safety); Sharon Cranford and Fran Kelleher (Health); and Leslie Milano (Working Families and Advocacy Day Coordinator). WDC could not have been so effective in its advocacy work without each of you!!

Also, a special thank you to everyone on the Advocacy Alert Team who called or emailed their legislators in support of one or more of WDC’s priority bills. The success of WDC’s advocacy depends on the actions of its members.

The Advocacy Committee is preparing its final status report that will be distributed shortly, once we know which bills the Governor signs into law.

Be sure to mark your calendars for Saturday April 27 from 11am-1pm when WDC will be co-hosting a 2019 legislative wrap-up with our Montgomery County State legislators at the County Executive Office Building. Click here for details.
